mp3DirectCut is almost perfect program to edit your mp3!.
When I lost my data (including this mp3cut program) cause of formatting my disk, I'm still searching this tiny program on internet. It's because of its tiny size, simple usage, and it did what i need.
The lack of this is it can't save/convert mp3 to another format or change its bit-rate, and so on.
Pros:
Tiny size
Easy and user friendly to use
Cons:
saving function to another format (wav,wma,m4a)
changing bitrate to reduce audio size More

does the job and works on Linux.
I'm using mp2DirectCut for cutting out samples for audio courses. It's very efficient for that. Besides it could be installed with no additional configuration or software on Ubuntu/Linux using wine (I've done it with Ubuntu 12.04)
Pros:
editing w/o loosing quality
useful for language audio courses
useful for audio courses
can be installed on Linux with wine More
